Radio Wishing Well has been broadcasting radio programmes to the patients of Trafford General Hospital in Davyhulme (Manchester) since April 1982. The hospital (formally known as Park Hospital) was where the National Health Service was founded in 1948, and was used as an American Forces hospital during World War II. Glenn Miller and his band once performed in the grounds in 1944.

The idea of the hospital radio station goes back to 1977, but it took 5 years to find a suitable studio in the building, and get it ready for purpose. A section of the telephone switchboard equipment was modernised which meant it only took up half of the space it had formerly. The other half of the area was given to Radio Wishing Well, but there was not a doorway to that section of the room. Eventually a new doorway was formed and RWW was able to move in.

On 26th April 1982, RWW went LIVE for the first time... The opening voice was that of local Piccadilly Radio presenter Dave Ward (aka Curly Shirley), and the 'Well's' first presenter was Paul Fairclough.

During the 80s, the station had it's share of ups and downs, but during this period discovered a number of future stars. Phil Trow and Becky Want have been on local radio for a number of years since starting at The Well. While Simon Parkin went on to present on TV and radio nationally.
